Okazuje się bowiem, że “mniej” wcale nie oznacza “lepiej”, choć genialny scenariusz Neila Gaimana jest w stanie zrekompensować pośpieszne przeskakiwanie pomiędzy wątkami, szereg dziur fabularnych oraz, co najważniejsze, fatalne CGI, które niestety momentami wydaje się na tyle przerażające, że widz – chcąc nie chcąc – odwraca jest niezwykle prosta. Zbliża się wyczekiwany tak przez siły niebiańskie, jak przez piekielne koniec świata. Jednak dwójka nietypowych przyjaciół – anioł Aziraphale oraz demon Crowley – stara się zapobiec katastrofie i powstrzymać Antychrysta. Okazuje się jednak, że nikt nie wie, gdzie on się podziewa. Do tego pojawiają się tajemnicza książka z przepowiedniami, łowcy czarownic i czterej jeźdźcy wątpienia największym plusem ekranizacji książki Pratchetta i Gaimana jest obsada. Można nawet pokusić się o stwierdzenie, że to najbardziej brytyjskie przedsięwzięcie od czasów Harry’ego Pottera. Zacznijmy jednak od dwójki głównych bohaterów, czyli Aziraphale’a, w którego wciela się jak zawsze znakomity Michael Sheen, oraz Crowleya, granego przez Davida chodzi o demoniczne wcielenie dziesiątego Doktora (oczywiście Who), muszę stwierdzić, że dawno nie widziałam, by aktor z taką łatwością bawił się postacią. Cały czas jestem zdania, że gdyby kazano mu zagrać mleko, zrobiłby to w taki sposób, że na długo zapamiętalibyśmy tę rolę. Tennant to bowiem aktorski kameleon, który staje się postacią, a nie ją gra. I tak też jest w tym przypadku. Crowley jest cyniczny, złośliwy, momentami przerażający, ale także nie wyobraża sobie życia bez swojego najlepszego przyjaciela. To miłośnik rocka, dobrego stylu i samochodów. Czystą przyjemnością było oglądanie jego kolejnych szalonych poczynań na wpisyMichael Sheen również wspina się na wyżyny swoich aktorskich możliwości, kreując postać wyważoną i na wskroś dobrą, która w pewnym momencie zdaje sobie sprawę z faktu, iż przyjaźń jest ważniejsza od ślepego podążania za „większym dobrem”. Już od pierwszych chwil w ogrodzie Eden widzimy, że to bohater na wskroś dobry, który potrafi wpaść w tarapaty z powodu crêpes (czyli mówiąc po polsku – naleśników). Momentami widz jest w stanie totalnie rozczulić się nad tą postacią, ale co ważniejsze, kibicuje jej od samego początku, widząc, jaka zachodzi w niej drugoplanowe również błyszczą pełnym blaskiem. Mamy bowiem do czynienia ze śmietanką brytyjskich aktorów. Na uwagę zasługuje uwielbiany przeze mnie Reece Shearsmith w roli Williama Szekspira, Mark Gatiss oraz – nagrodzony ostatnią nagrodą BAFTA – Steve Pemberton, wcielający się w okultystycznych nazistów, czy Jack Whitehall, którego większość kojarzy z występów w roli komika, a który tym razem pokazuje, że ma zadatki na dobrego aktora. Nieporozumieniem okazał się dla mnie jedynie występ Benedicta Cumberbatcha, który był głośno promowany, a użycza głosu wyłącznie na kilka sekund i nie jest to wcale jego najlepszy występ. Niestety to wielki, lecz zmarnowany potencjał, który twórcy mogli wykorzystać, jednak tego nie zrobili.
